Incident Overview
Rashawn Slater, the standout left tackle for the Los Angeles Chargers, was injured during practice on Thursday, leading to him being carted off the field with a concerning left leg injury.
Recent Contract and Emotional Reaction
Only a week after becoming the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history with a four-year contract extension, Slater reacted emotionally as he was assisted onto the cart. He threw his helmet and buried his head in his hands as the cart made its way off the field. A trainer draped a towel over his head as two additional trainers aided him into the cart. Notably, Slater was unable to place weight on his left leg.
Details of the Injury
The injury occurred during a modified 11-on-11 drill, where only three offensive linemen were present at the line of scrimmage. As quarterback Justin Herbert snapped the ball, Slater positioned himself in pass protection but suddenly fell after an opposing player collided with his left leg.
Aftermath and Team Support
Trainers attended to Slater for approximately two minutes before a cart was brought out for him. As he was being helped onto the cart, several teammates gathered around to offer support and comfort.
Further updates on Slater’s condition are anticipated.
